Reality

You create your own reality with your dance beliefs and it doesn’t even matter if the beliefs are true or not. If you believe something it comes true for you and it programmes your subconscious mind by proving you are right.

Few people are aware of their deep-seated beliefs about who and what they are and how this affects their reality. The primary reason for this lack of awareness. Long ago we would have accepted what dance teachers told us as facts, but there are very few facts in your life most of which you have accepted to be your reality that is the result of beliefs.

And when I say your reality I am speaking of all aspects of your life in regard to your quest to become a good dancer.

You need to examine your attitudes about good dancing and those who are already good.

If someone is dancing really well beside you on the dance floor, what do you think? If you think the dancer is a show off or you resent them, you are already blocking your success because you cannot become what you resent. Also you will always live up to your self-image and if deep down in your subconscious you feel snobbery accompanies good dancing then you will block getting good.

Now if any of this relates to you it is time to examine your beliefs about dancing. A quick way to do this is to instantly complete some questions. Don’t even think about your answers but from your heart immediately finish these sentences.

I think good dancers are…………..……….………..

My potential for becoming good is……….………

My basic belief about becoming good is……….

Ok, I think you have the idea. If your answers were negative you have a problem with your belief. It must be solved by finding the cause of your belief through re-programming.

Realise that you need an emotional purpose. For a large vision an emotional purpose will keep driving you forward, the desire to be the best in your class is an emotional purpose, to prove your dance potential to all those who used to laugh at you is an emotional purpose. To enjoy the ego satisfaction of rising above all of your peers is an emotional purpose,  but to teach so you can pay the mortgage without such a struggle is a practical purpose, instead of accomplishing practical goals people tend to reduce their desires.

Project confidence, have fun and smile even if you don’t feel it. Speak with everyone in the class and act confidently.  You don’t have to change how you feel about something to affect it, if you are willing to change what you are doing.
In other words even if you don’t feel happy, if you will just act it soon your feelings will follow your new behaviour and you will indeed become happy.

We will talk about this next time.
