Become a Good Dancing
Good dancing obviously means different things to different people and although most of the tips I will be sharing can be applied to any aspect of life, I will be speaking primarily of great dancing.
Now first and foremost you must develop clarity of intent clearly defining what great dancing means to you. If you don’t know exactly what you want how can you expect to attain it. So, if you are just beginning or already well into the race, be sure you have this clarity. You need a clearly defined goal or a strong general direction and you must learn how to become a good dancer.
To most people that means developing a particular dancing skill or launching a hot dance group, but the truth is that is only a small part of dancing, a necessary part to be sure, but 90% of success on the dance floor results from 4 factors.
1. Energy
2. Enthusiasm
3. Self Image
4. Discipline
1. Energy is a good area of exploration. You must have the mental and physical energy to do what you need to do to succeed. Mental energy is necessary to learn your skills, practice and remember. Physical energy is the basis of all energy and is the key ingredient of renewal.
How do you attain the energy you require? In a nutshell it will come from your lifestyle. A lifestyle incorporating physical exercise and a proper diet plus a balance of work and play and a minimum of stress. These factors almost assure an excess of physical energy.
2. Enthusiasm combined with action ensures good dancing. Enthusiasm is psychological adrenalin that drives you to victory against the odds. It usually results from doing what you love to do (dancing). So, before embarking on this quest to become a great dancer, be sure you have the enthusiasm to see it through. The more you believe in this goal the more enthusiasm you will have. Then attain the knowledge you will need which will generate even more enthusiasm
3. Self Image, perceiving yourself as a winner is probably the most powerful factor of all. Self image results from what you do. The more you do that makes you more proud, and to think better of your self, the better your self image becomes. So stop doing anything that lowers your self image and start doing everything you can to generate self esteem. It is critically important to realise that you will never allow yourself to have what you don’t feel worthy of. Do you feel worthy of your goals? If not, you must begin immediately to program your conscious and subconscious mind to support your worthiness.
4. Self Discipline, Self-discipline isn’t about self-denial or self-restriction, in the context of dancing it means self-determination. It is perseverance and action. It is the very basis of great dancing. It's how you direct your time, energy and resources to manifest your desires. Self-discipline is the one common element to all successful dancers, and it isn’t difficult to rise above the discipline performance level of the masses because they are accustomed to being disciplined by others, most people can’t discipline themselves. They accept being told what to do and how to do it. Self Discipline simply means you do what ever you need to do and to stop doing what doesn’t work. It is you and you alone that controls your mind, body and action and it starts with positive thoughts.
If you can’t control your thoughts you can’t control your actions. So begin immediately to monitor your thoughts. When you catch yourself thinking negatively say to yourself. " dance opportunity" then quickly imagine the same situation with a positive outcome. This little technique blocks subconscious negative programming and promotes positive thinking.
We will talk more about this when I see you.
Happy dancing
